Flake is made from specially formulated polymer paint aggregates and is used to enhance the aesthetic and ergonomic quality of resinous flooring systems. Flake is available in two types: Vinyl and Acrylic. Standard Acrylic Flakes are easy to use and bonds exceptionally well with epoxies and clear coatings. Vinyl Flakes are better for solvent based materials as it won’t bend under solvent influence. Vinyl Flake options are available in a wide variety of both colour and size to complement any space.

  • Purchase a quality Vinyl Flake blend.
  • Mix Flake thoroughly before using to achieve consistency throughout application
  • Broadcast the Flakes into the Epoxy or Polyaspartic base coat
  • Remove any unbonded Flakes
  • Sandwich the Flakes in, preferably with a UV resistant topcoat to provide a high level of protection and easy ongoing maintenance

Is it possible to apply epoxy over existing floor coatings?
In some cases, yes, but it depends on the condition, adhesion, and type of the existing coating. If the current coating is well-bonded, compatible with epoxy, and in good condition, a new coat may be applied after light abrasion and cleaning. However, if the existing coating is peeling, contaminated, or chemically incompatible, full removal is recommended before applying a new epoxy floor coating. Applying epoxy over a compromised surface is a common cause of delamination. 
Can epoxy floor coatings be applied outdoors?
Standard epoxy coatings are not recommended for outdoor use as they are prone to yellowing and chalking when exposed to UV light. For exterior applications, polyaspartic or polyurethane topcoats are typically preferred as they offer greater UV stability and flexibility across temperature changes. That said, some epoxy systems can be used outdoors when paired with a UV-resistant topcoat.
How do I prepare a concrete floor before applying epoxy?
