Hardcoat-D65 helps turn shaped polystyrene foam into a finished form with a hard protective outer coating. Liquimix provides the chemical system, suitable spray equipment, applicator training and technical support
What Is Hardcoat-D65 Polyurethane Hardcoat?
Hardcoat-D65 is a two-component, rapid-curing, solventless and spray-applied aromatic polyurethane protective coating designed for use over suitable polyurethane foam and expanded polystyrene.
In plain language, the shaped foam provides the lightweight form, while Hardcoat-D65 provides the hard outer skin. The coating does not convert the foam into a solid block or replace the structural design of the finished object. Instead, it helps protect the surface from impact, abrasion and routine wear.

Why Polystyrene Foam Needs a Protective Hardcoat
Polystyrene foam is lightweight, easy to shape and suitable for detailed designs, but untreated surfaces can be easily damaged.
Common problems include:
- Dents, chips and abrasion during handling or transport
- Damage to corners, detailed profiles and decorative finishes
- Wear from installation, repeated use or public access
- Exposure that may require a compatible protective topcoat
A suitable hard coating for polystyrene foam creates a tougher outer layer while retaining the foam’s lightweight advantages.
The correct coating system depends on the foam type, density, surface condition, object shape, location and expected exposure.
Main Applications for Hardcoat-D65
