Steel Protection
Steel Protection
There are many applications in construction, mining, transport or civil industries where steel assets require protection. Usually these are steel assets which endure extreme conditions, whether that is high abrasion and impact, chemical attack or permanent immersion. Protecting these steel assets correctly avoids corrosion, protects contents (in the case of permanent immersion) and extends the life of the steel.
Understanding corrosion: The corrosion of structural steel is an electrochemical process requiring the presence of both moisture and oxygen. If either are absent, corrosion does not occur. Essentially, the iron in the steel is oxidised to produce rust, which occupies about 6 times the volume of the original material which is consumed in the rusting process.
Civilox is a great primer for steel provided it is blasted properly before hand. Alternatively Tufflon adheres to steel with vice-like grip alone, without the need for priming. This technique requires that the steel is blasted immediately prior, before flash rust has the chance to form.
